What is a car loan?
A car loan lets you buy a new or pre-owned car and pay for it in monthly instalments. The car is the security: the lender records its interest on the registration certificate until you repay.
For a new car the loan is based on the price quoted by the dealer. For a pre-owned car the lender values the car first. Older cars generally get shorter tenures and higher rates.

How to apply
- 1
Tell us the car and your budget
Share the car details, or your budget if you are still choosing.
- 2
We compare lenders
We check which partner lenders can finance that car and age.
- 3
Documents and valuation
You submit papers; for a pre-owned car the lender also values it.
- 4
Approval and registration
After disbursal, make sure the lender's interest is noted on the RC and, for a pre-owned car, ownership is transferred to you.
Interest rates and charges
We do not quote a single rate here because it depends on the lender and your profile. Ask for the rate and every fee in writing before you proceed.
| Interest rate | Depends on your profile and the car's age and condition; often higher for pre-owned cars. |
|---|---|
| Processing and valuation fees | Ask for every fee in writing before you proceed. |
| Prepayment or foreclosure | Terms vary; some lenders allow early closure only after a set period. |
| Late payment | Missed EMIs attract penalties, and the lender can repossess the car after prolonged default. |
Smart tips before you borrow
- Compare the total cost of the loan, not just the EMI
- For a pre-owned car, get it inspected by a trusted mechanic before paying
- Check the RC, chassis and engine numbers, and that no earlier loan is pending on the car
- Make sure insurance is valid and ownership is transferred to your name
- Ask the lender about the maximum car age at the end of the loan
Frequently asked questions
How much of the car's price can I finance?
Lenders finance a share of the price (new) or valuation (pre-owned), and you pay the rest as down payment. The share depends on the lender, the car and your profile.
Can I get a loan for an older pre-owned car?
It is harder. Lenders set maximum car ages and tenures, so older cars may get smaller loans or be declined. Share the car details and we will check.
Who owns the car during the loan?
You are the registered owner, with the lender's hypothecation noted on the RC. It is removed after you repay in full.
Can I buy a pre-owned car from a private seller?
Many lenders finance this, but the paperwork needs extra care. We can guide you.
